Why coat a motorbike?

A bike's paint and plastics take more abuse than a car's. Bugs hit the fairings and screen at speed, road grime and chain lube fling onto the wheels and swingarm, and the tank gets rubbed by gear and riding jackets. Every wash means working by hand around tight gaps and delicate parts.

A ceramic coating gives the paint and plastics a hard, slick, clear layer. Bugs, grime and brake dust have far less to stick to, so the bike cleans up with a gentle wash instead of a long scrub, and the gloss lasts.

What ceramic coating does for a bike

  • Easier bug removal. Bug splatter comes off the fairings and screen far more easily.
  • Less brake dust build-up. Coated wheels release brake dust with a rinse and a soft brush.
  • UV protection. Slows fading on paint and plastics for bikes parked outside.
  • Deeper gloss. Paint and gloss plastics look richer and stay that way.
  • Quicker washes. Less time on your knees around the engine and wheels.

How we prepare and coat a bike

Bikes need a gentler, more detailed approach than cars. Every job includes:

  • A careful hand wash, avoiding high pressure around electrics, bearings and seals
  • Degreasing of wheels, swingarm and lower areas
  • Decontamination of paint and wheels
  • Light machine polishing of paint where needed, so the coating locks in a clean finish
  • Panel wipe, then the coating applied part by part
  • Curing time before the bike is ridden in the rain

As with cars, preparation is what makes the result. A coating seals in whatever is underneath, so swirls and marks on the tank are dealt with first if needed. Read more about paint correction.

Bikes we coat

  • Sports and naked bikes
  • Cruisers and tourers
  • Adventure and dual-sport bikes
  • Classic and restored bikes
  • New bikes, ideally soon after delivery

Matte paint and special finishes

Matte and satin finishes must never be polished, and they need a coating made for matte paint so they don't turn shiny. Let us know if your bike has a matte or satin finish, carbon fibre parts or raw metal when you ask for a quote, so we can plan the right approach for each part.

Looking after a coated bike

  • Wait about a week before the first wash
  • Use a pH-neutral wash and soft mitts or brushes
  • Rinse bugs off soon after a ride, before they bake on
  • Dry with a soft towel or a blower to avoid water spots
  • Avoid harsh degreasers on coated paint

Common questions

Can you ceramic coat a motorbike?

Yes. We coat motorbike paintwork, plastics and wheels, and screens and metal parts where suitable.

Does ceramic coating help with bugs on a motorbike?

Yes. Bug splatter has far less grip on a coated surface, so it washes off the fairings and screen much more easily.

Can you coat a matte motorbike?

Matte and satin finishes need a coating made for matte paint and must not be polished. Tell us about the finish when you ask for a quote.

How much does motorbike ceramic coating cost?

Bikes are quoted individually, because the amount of paint, plastics and metal varies a lot between bikes. Send photos for a free quote.

Can you coat my bike at home?

Yes, ideally in a garage or carport with a tap and a power point nearby.
