Why protect a new car's paint straight away?
A new car will never have better paint than the day you pick it up. From that point on, Sydney's sun, bird and bat droppings, tree sap, acid rain and every wash start to wear it down. Ceramic paint protection seals that new finish in before the damage starts, which is why it's the best time to coat a car.
It's also the most affordable time. Older paint usually needs machine polishing to remove swirls before it can be coated. New paint normally just needs a thorough wash and decontamination, so the job is quicker and the price is lower.
What ceramic paint protection does for a new car
- Keeps the gloss. A hard, clear layer over the clear coat keeps the paint looking new for years.
- Blocks UV. Slows the fading and dulling that Sydney sun causes on cars parked outside.
- Resists droppings and sap. Gives you time to wash them off before they etch the paint.
- Easier washing. Water and dirt slide off, so the car stays cleaner and washes in half the time.
- Fewer wash marks. A slick surface means less friction when you wash, so fewer fine swirls over time.
- Better resale. Paint in near-showroom condition helps when it's time to sell or trade in.
Dealer paint protection vs ceramic coating
Most dealers offer a paint protection package when you buy a new car. Some are good, some are a quick sealant applied on the yard. Before you sign, ask what product is used, whether it's a true ceramic coating or a sealant, who applies it, how long it takes and what the warranty requires. A proper coating on a new car takes most of a day.
Having it done independently means you know exactly what's going on your car: a named Gtechniq coating, applied by hand at your home, with the warranty provided by Gtechniq. If you've already said no to the dealer package, it's not too late. The sooner after delivery the better, but a few weeks or months makes little difference if the car has been looked after.
How we prepare new paint
New cars aren't always as clean as they look. Transport, storage and the dealer's pre-delivery wash can leave behind iron fallout, adhesive residue, water spots and sometimes light wash marks. Coating over those locks them in, so every new car still gets the full preparation:
- Wheels degreased and cleaned, then a full hand wash including door jambs
- Iron fallout and tar removed
- Clay bar to lift bonded contamination
- Inspection under light for wash marks
- Panel wipe so the coating bonds to bare clear coat
If the paint does have dealer swirls, we'll show you and quote a light polish before going ahead. For cars that need more than that, see paint correction and ceramic coating.
Which warranty should I choose?
We offer Gtechniq coatings with a 5-year or 9-year warranty, provided by Gtechniq. If you trade in your cars every few years, the 5-year option usually makes sense. If you keep cars for the long haul, the 9-year coating gives longer protection. We'll explain the difference when we quote, and register the warranty at handover.
New cars we coat
We coat everything from small hatches to large SUVs, 4WDs, utes and EVs. Many Sydney buyers now go for dark colours and big SUVs, and both benefit most from a coating: dark paint shows every water spot and swirl, and big vehicles are harder to keep clean. Electric vehicles are coated the same way as any other car.
After the coating
Keep the car dry for the first day if you can and wait about a week before the first wash. After that, a gentle pH-neutral wash every couple of weeks is all it needs. Avoid automatic car washes with brushes. Read our guide to ceramic coating aftercare.

If I could give Hot Ride ten stars, I would! The interior is now completely immaculate and looks (and smells!) like it just rolled off the showroom floor. Their attention to detail is next-level.
Common questions
How soon after buying a new car should I get it coated?
As soon as you can, ideally within the first few weeks, before the paint picks up wash marks and contamination. A car that's a few months old and well looked after can still be coated as new.
Does a brand-new car need paint correction?
Usually not. New cars normally only need a wash, decontamination and clay bar. If we find dealer wash marks, we'll show you and quote a light polish first.
Is dealer paint protection the same as ceramic coating?
Not always. Some dealer packages are a true coating, others are a short-lived sealant. Ask for the product name and the warranty terms in writing.
How long does new car paint protection take?
About 8 hours on site for a hatch or sedan. Larger vehicles take a little longer.
How much does new car paint protection cost?
Our Gtechniq ceramic coating starts from $999 for a hatch or sedan. Larger vehicles and add-ons are quoted on size.
Can you coat an electric vehicle?
Yes. EVs are prepared and coated the same way as any other car.
