Katoomba is the heart of the upper Blue Mountains, and life up here is different for a caravan. It's cooler, wetter and often misty, with occasional frost and even snow in winter. Many locals keep a van at home for trips further west or down to the coast.

Damp is the biggest enemy. Vans stay wet for longer, which encourages mould and mildew on seals, awnings and the roof, and lets grime turn into black streaks. Gum trees add sap and leaves, and many blocks are sloping, so vans often sit at an angle where water pools.

We come up to Katoomba and the surrounding towns, at home or at a storage yard, as long as there's water and power nearby and the van is on reasonably level ground.
